I finally feel like I have left my 3 weeks of misery behind and am back to training so I thought I would start a regular journal post to document my training and as a guide so I can see my progress.
I am currently training for Rock CF 13.1, Bayshore 13.1, Charlevoix 26.2 and Detroit Freep 26.2. Hey, just a reminder if you want to join me in the Freep use code “RunFastMama” HERE for 10% off! I also plan on running a few fun 5Ks and 10Ks as well as dabbling in a bit of trail running.
Back on Feb 2nd, I had to travel to Virginia for work and it threw a loop in my training a bit as the hotel gym was set to a nice, toasty 77F and I could not run outside. The next week I must have had the flu because that weekend my daughter got it. Then, when all was looking up on Feb 14th I got a bad pain in my rib that had me going low and slow for a week. The rib pain is most likely an aggravation of a previous case of costochondritis and aggravated by a too tight heart rate monitor.
So, at this point the past week has been looking up and I have been feeling much better and back to myself and have been able to get back in the routine with minimal issues. So with that, here is my recap from last week:
Feb. 14th, Sunday – Group run out in Romeo in the freezing cold and we got lost adding a nice, huge bonus hill at the end. Ran 9.8 miles with a 10:00 min/mile pace and just as we were finishing I had the rib pain that stopped me in my tracks.
Feb. 15th, Monday – 3 miles on the mill to recover. I was supposed to do more, but my rib was not having it. No clue at the pace, it was slow…
Feb. 16th, Tuesday – Redcord day and rest from running. My trainer, Tim, loves to shake things up a bit and enjoy working me harder. The Redcord has really benefited the imbalances I was suffering from and weakness on the right side. Stay tuned for a post on it.
Feb. 17th, Wednesday – Only 2.7 miles… the rib. I headed to see my Chiropractor and she stretched and adjusted me. I immediately felt better after.
Feb. 18th, Thursday – 3.5 miles, still a bit cautious with a 9:37 pace and another Chiropractor visit.
Feb. 19th, Friday – I started off with a great 4.5 mile run, 9:26 pace, and then went in to do an hour of Redcord. Rib pain was gone.
Feb. 20th, Saturday – What??? It was 60F here in Michigan in February! I took full opportunity to put on some of my new CEP gear and head out the door. I just ran by how I felt and for the first time in 3 weeks I felt back to myself. I ended up with 6 miles at an average 8:41 pace. I even had some fun the last mile doing some sprints.
Feb. 21, Sunday – Group run again on the hills! This time I partnered up with a new friend and really pushed the paces! My Garmin battery died on me at mile 3 (lesson learned to charge always the night before) but I used my phone to keep track of the paces. I ran the best I have ever ran on these huge hills! We had to slow it to a walk for most of mile 11 as some creatures were roaming near by, but it felt so good to stay closer to 9s over all the elevations.
Total Mileage Monday – Sunday = 31.4
So far this week has gone well and I am really getting excited for Rock CF. Now I just need to register 🙂
Have a great week everyone and I would love to read about how your training is going. Link up in the comments!
