So, I saw this hashtag #GoalDigger and I was like “Holy Crap! That is totally me this week!” I have no time to post, and life has been crazy, but I have really wanted to share my week with everyone. A year ago, I would not have handled my “week” like I did in 2016. New year, new me.. Remember that!
I have had so many things going on, and really have been blessed with so many amazing opportunities, that I am excited to share with you!
On Monday it was officially announced that I was selected, along with 11 others, to be an Ambassador for the 2016 Detroit Free Press Marathon! I was so excited when I got the official call last week asking me if I was still interested! UM, OF COURSE!
In December I did a Google search for “Marathon Ambassador” and discovered that the Detroit Marathon was accepting ambassador applications, so I applied as I LOVE the course, atmosphere and city. I have ran the Relay twice, the 5K twice and the International Half Marathon once. I jumped at the chance and decided on the spot my fall 26.2 would now be in the D!
After I accepted my position to share my love of the Detroit Free Press Marathon, I was notified last week that I needed to provide them a bio, as well as a profile photo, to be included on their website and possibly in the news! Oh, ok.. lol Panic mode set in as I realized I have changed so much and look nothing like my last set of professional pics that I got taken. EEK! My pic is going to be on their website and the news! I immediately contacted my good friend Shannon at Glamorous Moms and asked for advice. Of course, my girl hooked me up!
Within a few days I had a hair appointment the night before, and makeup and the photo shoot scheduled for Wednesday am this week, so I took a half day of vacation time from the corporate world. This also meant I started to cut down my diet, avoiding salt and sugar, but needing to maintain my running schedule. It was tough.
Wednesday morning came and my nerves were shot! I don’t know why I was so worked up over some makeup and photos but I was! I headed out to see Cassandra Ward to get my makeup done and was a wreck! I left the house an hour and a half before, as it was at least an hour drive, but once I got in her chair and relaxed, things were starting to fall in place. I was nervous this could all be pulled off.
Cassandra was amazing to work with! I hate heavy makeup, and she made me look like me, only improved, lol.
After my makeup was done I headed to meet J, from J Singleton Photography. HOLY CRAP! A real fashion photographer! I walked into a warehouse type location in Royal Oak and it was real! I had so much fun with J! He had me cracking up non stop!
J set up while I got ready! Yea, I brought my medals too and can not wait to see the photos from that! The main point of the photo shoot was to get a good headshot for the Detroit Freep Marathon, but I also wanted some updated ones for my blog as well as a few personal ones for me.
I can not wait to see my other pics next week, including ones in my favorite Ink n’ Burn outfit above, but I think J did an amazing job with my new social media profile pic!
I was burnt out after the shoot, but headed to a “workshop” for work to deal with an issue from the corporate job. When I got home from the long day, I still had my 6.6 miles or so of speed work to do as well, and this is where the #GoalDigger comes in. The old me would have never gotten on the treadmill after 6pm.
The old me would have totally said “I’m Hungry” and not had a simple snack and got to work on the treadmill. I got in my run and hit the spadework on que.
The next morning, Thursday, was a different story though. The messed up food schedule due to the shoot, and long day at work on Wednesday. and the speed work less than 12 hours before onWednesday night had me spent. I got up early at 5am as usual, but could not hit my pace targets for the life of me. I gave up at 4 miles exhausted and got ready for work.
This morning, Friday, I got up determined to do the run I could not manage yesterday and I did it. I hit the paces, I was energized and not exhausted. After my run I showered, and headed to Physical Therapy, where I did an hour of intense core work and then on to work for a long day.
This is the new me, the old me wanted to quit so bad.
To say I had too much going on because on top of being a mom, wife, chef and runner my day job has been crazy lately. I have been non stop but met my running, workout and eating goals like a BOSS! I did not let the excuses creep into my mind and get in my way of my goals! With that, I am proud to be a #goaldigger and not let my excuses become reality!
